It’s Time for Newburgh to Take Back Our Future
Dear Neighbors,
For over 50 years, we've loved Newburgh — not just as a place, but as our community. This city has been our home, our foundation, and most importantly, our family. When you hear someone say "Newburgh is my city," they are speaking about the heart and soul of our streets and the people who live here.
But today, our city faces a crisis of leadership.
π¨ A Crisis of Representation
In our view, the current administration, led by Mayor Torrance Harvey, does not represent the interests of:
- Newburgh residents
- Newburgh businesses
- The future of Newburgh itself
Instead, the mayor’s deep ties to Poughkeepsie have resulted — in our opinion — in an alarming flow of Newburgh’s grants, properties, and opportunities to individuals and religious groups outside our city, especially those with Poughkeepsie interests.
❗ Our Concerns
1. Resources Leaving Newburgh
Grants and properties intended to support our community are ending up in the hands of outsiders, rather than being used to uplift Newburgh families and businesses.
2. Lack of Local Representation
Many of the mayor’s most vocal supporters are not from Newburgh. We often assume they are part of our community — but they are not.
3. Closed-Door Deals
We believe some religious and special interest groups are making private real estate deals with Poughkeepsie-based organizations, undermining Newburgh’s future.
π¬ Why This Matters
This isn’t about Poughkeepsie residents personally.
It’s about the need for leadership that puts Newburgh first — leadership that acts in the best interests of the people who live here.
We deserve a mayor who invests in:
- Our neighborhoods
- Our youth
- Our local businesses
- Our collective future
Not one who treats Newburgh like a resource to be drained.
π£ A Call to Action
Newburgh has always been strong because of its people. Now is the time for us to come together, speak out, and demand leadership that truly represents us.
Here’s what you can do:
- π§ Get informed about where your tax dollars and city grants are going.
- π£️ Participate in local meetings and ask tough questions.
- π³️ Register to vote and support candidates who prioritize Newburgh’s residents, not outside interests.
π The Bottom Line
We believe Mayor Torrance Harvey’s time has come to an end.
It’s time for a change.
Newburgh needs leadership that:
- Knows our city
- Loves our city
- Will fight for our city
Together, we can take back our future and make Newburgh stronger than ever.
With respect and dedication,
— Newburgh’s Voice
